As we move into a new natural year with the spring equinox I want to share a snipped of thought from last summer when I was in the arctic circle (where the seasons are ever more so extreme).
i can’t help but connect current global problems to an imbalance of monotheistic based linear mentality.

Ramadan ☪️ ~ Every Year on the 10. Day of Ramadan, all the Restaurants of the Dahab promenade (El Mamsha) put their tables out and offer their meals to everyone that shows up.
It’s to share food with those that don’t have much. To share humanity with those that are alone. And to connect with people from all classes and regions of the world.
This is what community looks like!

It is the first year, that I join in and fast along with my muslim friends. It brings me to a whole other level of appreciation for this culture. Going through the hardship of fasting and then eat together at sunset, where everyone brings food and contributes to the meal. This is how spiritual work is supposed to be done. Together in community with discipline and compassion

Ramadan can in some ways be compared to Christmas. They are both highlights of the religous year, full of traditions and rituals. But in Egypt the community is at the core of traditions. They do this not only in Dahab but all over Egypt, where whole neighborhoods take their tables to the streets and share their meals.

This one took me weeks to put into words. On one side I live in a culture that wants to heavily restrict interactions between the sexes to avoid problems. I believe this missed the opportunity to teach people to be humans. On the other side there are people excusing actions with instincts and impulses that also shows a lack of education about mental strength and inner alignment. This is about integrity, responsibility and accountability. Qualities, I believe are very important to function as a society. Maybe that’s the reason they are mentioned in religious texts? Then why is it misinterpreted so often?

I came to Portugal to scout a new home. I sense a sweet community here and I wanted to see how I feel here in winter (quite ok), get to know more people and find that feeling of home somewhere.

But the moment I arrived to Portugal I had that specific each in my throat. Went to the new Years Festival with a ginger root and some honey, hoping to keep it down. While I did enjoy the festival, fire circles and ecstatic dance, I also was on very low energy, tired and using 43 tissues…

Then I went to Lisbon, technically just for 2 nights but realized I was very out of energy, PMS kicked in with a lovely headache, then Period Cramps then another low migraine… spent the whole week indoors and a little grounded.

With one exception: We went on a spontaneous roadtrip to Peniche and Nazare with super cold wind and breathtaking nature, lots of fun and some incredible food – all while having some rental issues and parking fines on which we spent an unnecessary amount of money.

I have been frustrated for moments and then super happy and inspired in others! And I think this is it – Life will always have its ups and downs, however you can hang onto the downs or just take the next high to fly again! And I think the more we manage to enjoy those little valuable moments of pure joy in life, the more we manage to hold multiple truths, the more we can be fluid between fails and beautiful moments – that’s when we madter the art of living.

Chop wood, carry water. Chop wood , carry water. And enjoy the sun on your skin, the warm tea in your hands or the fact that tissues always appear in the right moment when they’re about to run out 🤣🤧.

In yogic and tantric traditions, menstruation is understood as a phase of release and clearing.
When bleeding ends, energy begins to rise again.

That’s why practices like washing the body and hair, changing clothes and bedsheets, and cleaning the sleeping space were traditionally used to mark the transition into a new cycle.

For me the beauty of this is, that changing sheets and cleaning my space is exactly what I feel like doing in early follicular phase! I get this natural urge to clear everything out, and while my mind is not yet as focused and a bit sensitive, my body is full of energy that needs a stable outlet. Turns out changing bedsheets is way more fun with dancing to Shaggy anyways 💃🏻

It’s important to notice that this tradition is not about impurity. It’s about cleaning out the old to make space for the new! it’s integration.

Fresh surroundings help the nervous system and energy body register: one phase has ended, and a new one can begin.
